    Air Control Valve?

I have an 89 325i and the car is revving itself, i thought this was normal when I turned the car on. but i was on a red light and it started to rev it self again and the check engine light came on. As soon as the light turned green and I accelerated. The car started shaking and it turned off, my mechanic said the idle control valve could be the problem.

    what do you guys think?

Had the same problem. Also thought the ICV was the culprit, but it turned out to be a bad ECU. Put in a new ECU and problem went away.

i agreed bad bad vacuum leak sounds like the problem.

start the car and while its surging, pull off the oil cap and see if anything changes, it it doesn't then you have yourself a bad vacuum leak
