    non e30 content.. X5 content

i recently came across a 01 x5 4.4l. its my friends dads X they have way to much money hes a lawyer his mom is a lawyer... anyways i found out today they are trying to get rid of it for 5grand canadian... it has 220,000 kms on the motor and chassis, new tranny and new rear air suspention.. 1 owner new from dealer in 01. a binder full of mantinence records, always serviced at BMW dealer.. it is silver with black leather interior.. anyways reason for selling is that they have to many cars and know nothing about vehicles and are just sick of getting it serviced at the stealership.. so i think this turned them away from the X5.. anyways do you think i should jump on it and drive it for a while then flip it or pass on it?
anyone know any issues with the x5 i should be concerned about..?

The biggest problem in my opinion with the newer generation BMW's is maintenance. 15k mile oil services, that people frequently stretch to 18, 20k, etc. This starts to creates major issues once the cars begin to get over 100k miles with sludging and oil consumption. The 4.4 M62tu is a pretty good engine, but be prepared to replace valve cover gaskets, valley pans, and pcv system components regularly. Also at that mileage it will need rear subframe bushings soon, which is a pricey job. Other common problems are window regulators, blower motor final stage, clogged evaporator drains and basically the entire cooling system.

I think overall they are pretty good SUVs, but just be aware that it was a $50k plus vehicle new, and there are probably a number of good reasons why its lost 90% of its value in 8 years.

That should be enough right there. Buy it for $5k and immediately sell it. I hate X5's because of how frequently stuff breaks.

Good price if it's in good condition, buy it and flip it.

took it for a test drive.. engine reved smooth, plenty of power.. only thing i noticed when i would drive down the road and do a side to side weave i noticed a small clunking noise coming from the front.. also notice a squeek coming from the rear right wheel going over a bump..
            milage is 80% highway.
also i didnt notice any excesive oil leaking from anywhere.. motor looked pretty clean
i probably counted 20,000+ in serive bills. it was at least 2 inchs thick
