    green brake fluid

was helping a friend who recently got a bmw, we were bleeding the brakes, the color is green. Im used to seeing clear with my castrol or others ( or real pale yellow)

I hope this is not synthetc as I was told dont mix them and when you get syn in them you always have to run syn as the two will interact and not function correct

    true?

    thanks

Probably a dye used by whomever makes that brake fluid to make it easier to spot leaks.

If it bothers you flush the system and replace it with some BMW approved DOT4.

As long as it doesn't come out black and full of metal shavings you're fine.

I think you're confusing advice about motor oil with advice about brake fluid. It doesn't matter anyway. You can mix syn and non-syn motor oil as long as the viscosity and API/SAE ratings match; and even if they don't it's not a big deal. Once you use synthetic you can go back to regular, or vice versa.

green tint probably means it had SuperBlue in it at one point, and now had gold. SuperBlue stains everything, and any subsequent changes will have a greenish tinge to them. I alternate between blue and gold just to make it easy to tell when I'm done.

And yes, there is a DOT5 brake fluid that you should not mix with DOT4 (what you should use for these cars)
