    power windows

well all the sudden both my driver and passenger side windows wont go up or down, with no sound or movement at all. I checked the fuses but i have a question... is there a window ground?? Or any other suggestions would be awesome!

    thanks,
    luke

There is a fuse switch either in the console or by the hazzards that will cut all power to windows if tripped or showing red!
The difference between porcupines and BMWs is that porcupines have the pricks on the outside!

Bad switches would be my guess, not sure on the window ground question though.

the motors only have two wires. I think there's a ground at the switch and up/down motion just changes the direction of motor spin (only guessing though)

i will be sure to do that. id like to get my hand on one of those wire testing things to see if they are getting power or not. its raining now, so ill probably go into it tomarrow.

this is kind of in the wrong section, but buy a multi-meter or volt-meter (whatever you want to call it) and start doing tests strand of wire at a time seeing where you do and don't get power and you can slowly start to narrow it down. It helps to have another person press the switch while you do the multi-meter. Most of the time it's the switch or the motors but since you said they both stopped working at once i thought that was a bit strange. if they both havent been working for a long time that could be the motors.... i couldn't tell you without seeing the problem myself though

There's no way that BOTH motors died at the exact same time, same with the switches, the possibility that they stopped working at the same time is far too small. I would say you most likely have a short in the system, the problem is it won't necessarily be easy to locate. Your fuses could be bad, although you already checked those. The window lock button could be bad, it sounds to me like the motors aren't getting any power, which means it's not likely not the switches either.

Best I can say is to tediously test every wire to the switches and motors. The bentley should have the wiring diagram and you're going to need to trace the system and find your problem, I'm gonna say it's most likely a relay somewhere.

Did you spill a drink in your car recently? Coke or coffee in the switches is a bad thing!

If you already checked the fuses, check them again.
