Too many miles, not worth it?

Ive been dailing my e36 m3 and its been racking up miles quickly and i dont want to drive it in the winter, so i have been looking at getting an e30. I found this one on cl:

It seems to be in good condition, but the only thing i am concerned about is the fact that it has 235k on it. I was wondering if it is worth it. I need something reliable to drive to and from work. I know these motors usually need a rebuild around 250k. Thanks in advanced.

Thats not entirely true. Looks like a decent car. I think that you could talk him down a bit. But it would make a perfect dd if you want to park the M3.

I doesn't look that bad in the pictures to me for 1200. It is worth a look and if it doesn't have any rust or mechanical issues it might be a decent deal. At least it's an 88 so a plastic bumber swap would be easy.

It's all in the previous owners. I bought my e30 at a pretty premium price and it's got just under 300k on it.

It came with 6 years worth of records amounting to over $16k.

Runs great because it was cared for. Pretty clean body too. I also can trace it back 13 years from its 2 previous owners I've talked to.

Do your research on the car and see what you can find out.

$1200 is a very good price.

looks nice for 1200 dollars, surprising low too.
id pick up on it, i motor and plastics will go right on there.

plus he said "These cars last forever" so obviously it will.

My car has about 280k and I have yet to have to rebuild the engine, granted I'm also the original owner so it's been taken care of. Like the other guys have said, it's all about how the previous owners have cared for the car, 235k isn't that bad, especially at 1200.

280k on my M20 DD, running great. Keep a fresh T-Belt on it and it will be golden.

301.5k on my '90, original drivetrain. Top end of the engine was done at 207k, but it's never had a full rebuild. I bought it at 250k and it's been rock solid reliable. Other than normal maintenance and wear items (and repairing a deer strike), I haven't had to do a thing to it. It takes me to work and back every day, 75 miles round trip, and hasn't let me down yet.

Again, it comes down to the previous ownership and how they maintained it. The original owner of mine was my neighbor from the street I grew up on, he took good care of it and had all the records.

It's actually the first BMW I ever got a ride in; I was 13, the car was about a month old.
