My 91 325i:what to do with it?

I'm thinking about parting out my car
.There's none wrong with engine and transmission i just don't have the available fund to fix the tiny little problem like:PO took the cat out and installed a big 2.5' pipe coupled with a cheap ebay muffler.I have to fix that to pass inspection.I already bought a cat and an ansa muffler but i have to find two original pipes that go from the front to the back since both cat and muffler have each two inlets and outlets.
One of my tail light lenses is broken, bad fan clutch and rear trailing arm bushings.I bought the car with the intention of swapping the auto to a 5 speed, after talking to my mech about it he basically talked me out of it.He says that i'll be spending too much money to make it happen that i'll be better off finding a 5 speed car instead since these cars are relatively cheap to buy.
What do you guys think?I love this car but i'm broke i cant fix it.
Btw everything on the car works(power sunroof and windows, gauges etc...)The car is alpine white with black interior.

That car's in really good condition body wise. If you don't find very much rust on it, I say keep the car and build it up little by little. You don't have to make it perfect in one fell swoop. Don't do the 5 speed for another year or so, save up the cash to do it and collect parts along the way. a lot of the small stuff can be picked up on here for relatively cheap. Why on earth would you want to kill a perfectly good, working e30?

A five speed swap will cost you roughly $500-$700 depending on what you get new and what you can find used. Its hard to find a good clean e30 and I think the one you have would be an excellent candidate for the swap.

Well, how much does your mechanic normally charge to replace a clutch? Doing the auto to manual swap shouldn't cost much more than that if you provide him with the parts.

Parting it out just seems dumb.

I can live with the auto tranny for now cause it's not creating any problem and it shifts well. The car needs a bit of suspension work, the dampers look fine but the rubber bushings need changing front and back.I already bought a lot of stuffs but because of lack of time i'll have to pay somebody to do them.
I love the car.The AC is so cold that you can't keep it on the level 2 dial.
