    320i worth it ?

I am happy with my 1991 318 and my sons wife really likes it

well my neighbor is selling his 84 320i and I know it is a different beast, but she likes it and Im not sure its worth it
    heres the skiiny

norht east washington car, no rust, no dents
110k 5 speed 2nd owner who is frineds of the oringal owner
sunroof and basket weaves, tires excellent
black car, hood clear coat is pealing a bit ( he says its oringal paint, did they clear coat back then ?)
extra 2 basket weaves with snow tires ( havent seen)
    complete tool kit
craked dash under a correctly fitting cloth cover
orignal seats, good under sheep skins (front) back perfect
wheels are a bit gray, but the outer rims seem to shine and a different "texture", curent owner says that the original owner says thats the way it was when he bought it new ( wheels)
runs drives corners stops very well, but my (318 seems faster)

owner claims the car is worth 5k , but to me , before advertising , will sell it to my daughter in law for 3k, ( what he has in it he says)he says the reason he is selling is he needs a 4 door and bmw parts are spendy ( he does not know about pelican parts etc) ( yes he needs a 4 door , new kid)
Ive seen 318s in this pricerange, so I dont know if the car is worth it or not
my son says that if they dont like it after having it he can easily get the 3k back out of it if it si really worth the 5k

I said I would check here...thus the post

    well ??????

Well, it has low miles, it seems to be in very good conditions etc etc. It all depends on your judgment. I honestly dont know if anyone but an enthusiast is willing to pay 5k for an 84...no matter what conditions. Theyve got to really be into cars. As in buying it for 3k it may be a good deal i mean its got 110k miles and its an 84, and if you guys like the bmw's then sure but see if you can get him down a bit more. My dads a mechanic and ive seen the situation to many times where an old car just overheats or the belts are always breaking and things of that sort even with low miles, just because the technology wasnt so advanced back then. I think he is just telling you e can get 5k from it when really he will prolly get 3k for it on the street. and is just making it easier for him to sell. Thats just my two cents, i dont know as much about 84's but for me i dont think id be willing to pay 3k for one THAT old a 89 to 91 thats in real good conditions yea but an 84? Thats way back there. Anyways u can find a 89 to 91 thats pretty much super clean for that money. And ur getting a newer car and as youve experienced a great one too.

                        eh
so if it's an e30 and not an e21 here are a few things to think about:
                        1. It's slower than a 318is and uses more gas than a 325i
                        2. It's L-Jetronic injected ugh, miles of vac lines/crap/actuators
                        3. It's Grey market, so
                        a. Should have the skinnier euro bumpers (very desireable)
                        b. Depending on when it was imported, it probably has been wrecked/ might have rusty floor boards/jack points... all german cars have this (ie: cars that have lived in the fatherland)
                        c. It's gonna have drum brakes (unless it has ABS) in the back, tiny shocks (45 v 51mm shocks) in the front
                        4. If it isn't an e30 and is a us spec e21, they are on teh crack for the price, 3k is fair for a euro e30 as long as the chassis is clean (which it won't be)

so cool points: yes, reliable: no, economic: no

It does have a 731 casting head that can be stuck on an eta motor though. However the valves are a bit small for this application

if I havetn already said, we will pass,
my neighbor knows nothing about this and other forums, so if anyone is interested I can get you some contact info
I know that this weekend he is gonna put it on craigs list

also if someone is really really interested I can get more info on it.
I also know from my conversation that I had this morning with him, he is now more aware of the going prices and siad he guess he would take 2k for it
