well IM not getting it, but if you saw it in person, this car is definetly not beat to shit, it looks like its only been off the shoroom for a few years, except for the paint and the dash cracks
Ill stick with my m42 318 and hopefully find a good one for my daughter in law, except she might need a 4 door with theone munchkin and one on the way
Good help there... Get yourself a e30 w/ a 6 cylinder.
An e30 must be superior... it's the successor to the e21.
The e21 came and went; prior to the M style engines. Also, only offered the M10 motor with 2 valves per cylinder; a 4 banger, too.

The US market only received the M10 version of the E21. I have a friend who has a gray market Euro spec E21 323i, that car is awesome. The 6 cyl M20 Euro spec E21 is the only version of the E21 I would own.
If you think your 91 318is is slow, you have seen slow until you drive a E21 or E30 M10 1.8L. Stick with your E30 318is M42, it's a poor man's E30 M3. I have two now, a E30 M42 sedan and a coupe. My M10 BMW is a 74 2002tii.
m42 would fit, but wouldn't be fun to put in, and would be marginal gains in the power department. drop in an m20, simpler to mount and more power. if you want something more complicated, drop in an m52b28 out of a z3. aluminum block, so very light and makes nice smooth power that's reliable. but very very complicated.
