    Brake lights don't work

Today i got my pink slip done, and on the way home my brake lights stop working. Im pretty sure its the switch behind the brake pedal, when i apply the brakes i dont feel/hear the switch click.

Is that anything i can fix or does it need to be taken to an auto electrician? And, What does the switch look like on e30's?

Check fuse 6 (7.5A) first, then check to make sure the brake light check relay is plugged in properly.

That would be the small black box near the antenna, under the side cover of the trunk.

When you start the car, the check panel should show "BRAKE LIGHTS", then shut off when you press the brakes.

If fuse 6 is good and it doesn't shut that light off, it is likely the switch.

If the check panel stays lit, start with the switch.

Do you own a testlight? If not, get off yer butt and go get one.

Drop the panel under the dash (hush panel) and look at your brake arm. You will see 2 switches, one that triggers when you barely tap on the brakes (cruise control shut off) and the other one that triggers when you push harder on the brakes (brake lights).

Grab your test light, clip the end on something that is bright metal (not painted) and turn your key on.

Violet/green should have power on it when you turn the key on.

When you step on the brake, green/red should turn on.

If you have no power when your turn the key on, check that 7.5A fuse.

If the fuse is good, you are fucked, call a shop.
