Can a broken rocker EVER result in no collateral damage?

I helped a friend R&R a head recently on his 325i, a rocker broke and everything else looked intact.
Ive seen them when the belt goes how they can crack the casting around the rocker shafts, bend valves, etc...but is it possible that the valve just closed when the rocker broke? The belt didnt snap in his case but i think he just downshifted too quickly-there was no evidence on the piston either.
My spring compressor is on a hiatus at the moment so i cannot take it apart, but more so just curious if everything could be intact (valve guide, valve, etc....) but im no stranger to rebuilding the heads so i generally know what to look for.

    Thanks!

Generally, when a rocker breaks, no additional damage happens.

Of course, this being R3V, some dipshit is gonna pipe up with "my buddies car blah blah blah", but generally, nothing else happens.

Why wouldn't it be possible? Rocker breaks, valve spring closes valve.

yes..its possible that just a rocker breaks..usually on the back end of the crown.
if your lucky, the snapped off bits are just lying in the top part of the head.
if your not lucky like me...you can also enjoy the fun feeling of snapped head bolts.
