    Can't paint plastic?

I took my car to a very good body shop Monday to get the trunk, valence, is lip, and a Racing Dynamics rear valence. They call me back about 2 hours later saying that they can't paint the lip or the rear valence because they're made of plastic.
I was under the impression that a flex agent was added to the paint to allow the paint to well, flex, so it could be painted onto a plastic piece that's flexible like that.

Is there anything I can do?

Well, this IS a decent body shop. The best in town in my experience. They do a damned good job.

Should I call them and ask if they can't do a flex agent?

I suppose not. I just don't want to be a dick to the guy controlling the quality of the paint on my car.

So, WTF, why not give us some detail...your post sounded like you were dealing with retards at Maaco.

Did they give you no more answer than that?

Seriously, what kind of body shop wouldn't paint plastic parts these days?

Walk in there, look for the body shop manager, take out your cock and slap him/her across the forehead, this should produce a dry, barely audible "thud"...

                place cock back in pants.

then take your car to a body shop that didn't get their license by sending 3 UPC's and 5 bucks to General Mills.

ive painted plenty of plastic things without use of a flex additive. all of them held up great, and as with anything with painting, prep is key.

on top of that, i don't know any car these days without a painted plastic part. how do they stay in business?

I second that also. I'm glad that they were upfront about telling you that they couldn't do it. But there are shops that can. Plastic can be painted. I can't even count the number of times that I've rattle canned plastic with good results (as Dan said, prep is the key) so there is no reason why a decent body shop can't do it with the right equipment.

Worst case is you use a flexible primer (SEM makes a really good one), you do not need to ad anything to the paint.

Yeah, I really was surprised that they couldn't do it. I'd never heard of body shop NOT being able to do plastic. Fuck, all new cars these days are about 45% plastic.
