They are idiots. Go somewhere else. I painted my plastics on my quad with my spray gun using paint with flex agent. Now I guarantee that my fenders on my quad go through way more shit then anything on a car. They have been holding up for over a year now with no spider cracks, peeling or flaking.

Yeah, I just called them. He said the stuff they use wouldn't be able to stick to that type of rubber (which is weird that he called it rubber, but whatever) But he said there are other places here that will.
I'd really prefer to keep this same paint guy and have them do it because well, they already have the damn car, and mixed the paint, and it'll cost me probably more to take it somewhere else and have them do it. But what it is is what it is.

        Actually...

Both the items he's talking about have plasti-dip on them. ya suppose that could be throwing them off?

You would think a experienced body shop would know what the hell they are doing.

You'd think that a lot about most places. But I'm just trying to cover all bases.

They're the best body shop in town? Can the other body shops in your town not paint sheet metal or something? :nice:

Technically, its not even in town, its a town north of here. But yeah, probably not. To put it lightly, we used a shop in town once and it came back with so much SHIT under the paint. I'm talking dust, mosquitos, children...

                  Yes!

I called again and spoke to the owner. I explained to him what I'd heard from the guy I had been talking to and it's going to be done right now.

a flex agent is only used in paints to slow them down from drying so when you put them on they don't crack. as long as they used the correct primer they can paint them.

                      Ahh, good to know. Thanks.

That's a key point that you forgot to mention in the original post. Strip off the plasti-Dip and there should be no issues.

Wait, if it's plastic that's one thing, but the IS trunk spoiler isn't plastic, it's more of a squishy rubber. No amount of flex agent will prevent the paint on there from cracking. That material is very flexible. Mine's painted and there are about a million cracks in it. Every time you touch it it cracks. I'd advise against painting that.

That's if you were talking about the IS trunk lip, not the front one.

Was talking about the front. I don't have an IS trunk lip anymore, I got a hartge rep wing.

Yeah, I didn't think it would be all that important, but I called and told him about it and it's not a problem anymore. Woo.
