    HELP!

I just bought new tires, 225/50/16 Pirelli P-zero Neros. Great tires, but they're rubbing on the front strut housing. The tires are mounted on the E38 BBS 16x8 wheels, et23.

Now, what I want to know is if its safe to drive around (highway included) on them eventhough they rub on the housing? If not, are they going to overheat on the rubbing part and actually explode? Also, if I need spacers (i'm sure i do), where can I get them and what size do I need? Anyone here that could get them cheaper than I would be able to online? Thanks a lot.

    Jaime

BTW, this is on an 86 535i.

Mods: The only reason I put it here was because I needed a quick answer, and people check this forum more than the tech forum.

You need spacers, I wouldn't driver very far at all with it rubbing like that as it will generate tons of heat. Look at BMA, Tirerack, Bavauto, etc for spacers and also any place that sells VW aftermarket parts.

if the wheel isnt rubbing too badly (if you can rotate a properly torqued wheel, when it is off the ground, with your hand without too much effort) then i think 10mm spacers should give you a safe margin. i would not drive the car until the tire is clear of the strut housing.

See, the thing is, it doesnt rub AT ALL when the tire is off the ground. And its barely rubbing when there's weight on it, so I was just thinking of buying two 5mm spacers and some longer lug studs and slappin them on there. Do I need to get'em balanced if I put spacers on?
