Hitting a deer is fucking bad luck. You can drive as "prudent for conditions" as you want, but that isnt going to stop a 200 pound deer from jumping out in front of your car. Ive lived in deer country my entire life (now elk country, which are just as retarded and twice the size) and Ive seen plenty of people get sniped cause Bambi decided to jump in front.
Ya sometimes they do this thing where they like dance on the side of the road so you have to completely stop and scare them off cuz you never know if there just going to jump in front or fuck with you. Deer's are fucking nasty I would never feed those to my dog.

Sucks about the car. At least you've got the skill to swap everything over.
Word. Skill yes, energy and drive I might be lacking though. It took me six years to get to the point I was at thus far and I was motivated...

agree 5 over is standard.. however, driving the conditions and keeping awareness are more important than going the speed limit.

I'm not going to argue semantics anymore but I was driving at a safe and prudent speed for the conditions, barring anything wildly out of my control, like Bambi's mom going for a midnight sprint into my euro grills.

I hit the deer less then a mile from my house on an open straight. There are low ditches which is why I didn't see it until it was too late and familiarity with the road played a large factor in my confidence level. I drive said road MINIMUM ten times a week, 50+ weeks a year and have done so for two and a half years. Several people have died about five miles west of where I was, that's a known wildlife corridor and moose and deer cross regularly but where I was when I had my encounter with Ms. Odocoileus virginianus is not usually populated by wildlife. There's a heavy equipment dealer on one side of the road and a large, fast flowing river on the other side so animals tend to cross in the marshy areas to the east and west. Not to mention I have a large dog kennel of siberian huskies just to the other side of the river which also seems to encourage the local fauna to keep their distance.

Bottom line, it was fucking bad luck as Fielding said. This is why I carry insurance on all of my vehicles. I just wish I'd gotten around to getting my car appraised before the accident, it's been on my to do list since january...

Well that part is for you to figure out. It sucks but if it's time to move on then it's time to move on. So many cool cars out there.

We all do things that might not be 100% smart from time to time. 99.9% of the time it's fine. Sometimes we're unlucky.

Hmmmmm. If it was bad luck, I wouldn't think you'd be so emotional. Sounds like you are lying to us and yourself.

Do you not get how much time and energy I have into that car? Probably not because you just drive that Malibu your parents bought for you which is probably the most soulless car you can drive...

When you spend enough time working on something you develop a certain attachment to it. I'm sure a lot of members here feel that about their cars, from the newcomers who only wax and change oil to those of us who think nothing of swapping a motor over the weekend. We're here because we love cars, and E30s in particular and I happen to have loved my car. How the hell is it incriminating to feel emotional about the destruction of something you love?

Seriously, unless you have something useful to add, get the fuck out of my thread. You're a waste of bandwidth.
