Cheapest overseas shipping

I have friends/family from germany and feel if I can get a good deal on certain smaller items from over there that are rare here. Is this feasible? I know the value of the euro versus dollar but many of the parts that are rare and desired here are normal for them, so they can be snatched up for much cheaper. Anyone know the best oversea's shipping? DHL? UPS? Thanks!

It use to be Dutch Post/DHL. But DHL has scaled back to only large cities IIRC so be careful.
