    Heated seat fire

I got to work this morning at 4 am. At about 1 pm a coworker told me my car was on fire. I ran out to find my whole car filled with smoke. The drivers seat had caught fire and was spreading. We were able to put it out but some damage was done. The seat, carpet, door panel, and sun visors are goners and the top had minor damage. I assume the seat heater shorted since that's where the fire started. Has anyone heard of this happening? The car was obviously not on so I don't know why the seat had power to it.

^^ what he said. it seems very unlikely for the circuit to stay engaged after the ignition was turned off

sure it wasnt vandalism? seats should be off with ignition. seeing that you have a convertible you probably didnt have to put the seat in yourself correct?

I'm sure it wasn't vandalism. The car had been sitting off for nine hours and it was still all locked up when I came out.

Finally a decent pic of the seat. None of my pics were loading.

Ummmmm, started at the bolster? They don't even have heating elements.... unless maybe the actual wires to the heating elements grounded on the seat frame? But then again, why would they have voltage if the car was off...

                        Sucks.

the elements are in the seat bottoms and backs, and the pics don't really show the origin of the fire coming from those points, are you sure it was electrical ?

It's the only thing that makes sense. The car was completely locked up at work. I don't smoke or anything so I don't know what else could have caused it.
