Buying a car from a tow yard

Can anyone explain to me the whole process? I tried google, but I couldn't get a straight answer. btw the car is a clean title and driver didn't have license.

It's almost exactly like buying a car from anywhere else just a couple different papers and maybe an extra 50$ or so in DMV fees because they have to issue new license plates and such. You'll also most likely have to smog it yourself.

Also if it was registered as salvage then it will have a salvage title. If they just put a leen on it then you are good.

Thanks guys. The seller told me he doesn't have the title and will give me a Lien Pack when I purchase the car. does this sound normal?

Yep, it'll just be an extra paper for the lein sale info you fill out with your info and the tow yards info, then a bill of sale, a paper explaining the car is as-is etc., and an application for lost title.

Sounds pretty legit to me but make sure you look the car over very carefully and thoroughly before you buy it.
