My expensive hot air intake gave me roughly 40 more hp and 130 more tq at the wheels at only 3700rpm. This is a very extreme hot air intake, and should be taken seriously. The air temp is usually 10degrees hotter than the outside air temp, unless outside air temp is around 40, then its about 5 degrees hotter.

Seriously though, i "felt" no gains when I had a regular hot air intake on my car (before i had the turbo). It did sound a hell of a lot cooler though. Best bet is to heat shield the cone (if you use one) a lot, you must keep it away from ambient engine heat. Or you can use your stock intake box, with a high flow k&n panel filter and take out the resonator in the intake box.

lets not get in a pissing match over dyno numbers, seeing as how its difficult to replicate the air moving through a car with fans on a dyno.

I give little or credit to 'dyno proven' intake claims, since they are basically a waste of time.

now controlled road pulls (on a closed course) may hold some merit, but no one does that...

an a different note, how long is the piping for the Cold air intake? the longer the piping, the more effect it will have on throttle response...

I bet I could put a CAIS on the e30 and dyno it on run #1 and then put the stock airbox back on and dyno it on run #2 and claim that the CAIS was an improvement.

Dyno numbers have to be taken with a grain of salt.

1st run was with Heatshield and big filter. 206hp
2nd run was no hearshield 194hp
3rd run was stock airbox, BEST RUN 207hp

My car will run the same numbers no matter how many runs I do, when we were tuning my computer, we did about 35runs, it was really consistent.

If you can't believe a dyno, then what the hell can you believe?

1/4 mile MPH. That's what I believe. Weigh the car at the track. Weight plus MPH is the absolute best way to measure a car's RWHP especially in relation to another car at the same track on the same day.

Any estimate on what this cold air system will cost? I am interested for sure if the price is reasonable.

It'll be reasonable for sure. I'll have a good cost estimate as soon as we fabricate the prototype.
                Thanks,

honestly, i think it will be too costly to be worthwhile.

There already are CAI's out there. A handfull of companies sell intake kits and I sell the heatshields.

You guys know who to ask if you want a shield. :) I'll beat any price.
