    metallic noise

my car just started having a weird metallic vibration noise between 1500-2000 rpms. It makes the noise in all the gears. It only makes the noise under load, in neutral its fine. I'm thinking its an exhaust shield under the car, what else could make that noise?

hmmm, for me its does it whether I'm going straight or turning, its not speed related. Its weird because its almost always at 2000rpms, it kind of makes a buzzing thin metal kinda sound.

Heat shield would by guess. Not the big one that go along the tunnel, but the ones welded to the down pipes. It you wack at them with a knuckle, you should find the offending part.

I took a hammer to mine to dis-form a bit - it got rig of what ever was vibrating.

Mine also started doing this exactly. Just recently. It might be that the cat is dying.

Your center support bearing might be bad. How bad is the vibration?

guess I'll start looking around under the car, too bad my jack doesn't work with the car lowered:(I'll just drive onto some bricks and start looking.

Is it a cheap cat or an OEM one because I had a cheap cat in my car and it made the same sound as a heat shield or loose exhaust. It was coming apart from the inside

Cats self destruct sometimes. Pulled one once and chunks of the filter material came out.
                          Jah bless! :pimp:

FIXED, it was the first exhaust hanger, the nut came off so the exhaust could rattle around up front.
