If it isn't sold and the guy is asking $4k, take it and don't look back. To keep it or to part it, it's still a wise investment. If he's asking you to name the price, I would say $5-5.5k is reasonable.

I would pay $4K right now, providing it isn't a complete rustbucket. I would assume the regular stuff such as battery box and rear valence.

How much are people (here in the US) willing to pay for this specific car?

Update: Prev. owner says the car DID run, but at the moment he doesn't know. I will take that as it doesn't run, but also doesn't necessarily have anything wrong with the motor, and can easily run if the car was put back together.

That is not my goal at all.
I can entirely respect s38e30's view here.... in Europe pricing is not what it is in the USA. Availability is also different....

I just didn't want people to take blanket statements of "The car is worth $2500" seriously.

If s38e30 is also in the dismantling/parts resale business, that would further explain why one might value the vehicle even lower than someone who's restoring it. The margin on the parts sold increases the lower the value of the car.

Go look at used prices for M3 suspension parts if you can find them.
Maybe in Spain they're readily available... Europe also got almost 2x the number of E30 M3's as the USA.



Do you know what a NOS 2.3L block is worth? A block alone from BMW is worth ~$2500. Good luck finding a decend USED block & crank that doesn't need a hone/rebore. But hey, again what do I know? ;)

That was 3 years ago. I assure you if you tried to buy the identical car now, you'd pay 2x that price. How much have you invested in it since you bought it?


My point is not to berrate or belittle your opinions. My point here is to rationalize and prove that what may be consistent in Europe/Spain, may not be the case here in the USA. The reason I quoted "new" prices on some of those items is because it is becoming increasingly harder to locate such items here in the USA in decent condition. No more, no less... just a point of reference.


The best statement in this thread is "A car is worth what someone is willing to pay for it." And the above car is worth $5500-8500 to me. ;)

parting it's worth more for stated obvious reasons but owner most likely doesn't want to go that route. It's timely and a hassle big time.

But entirely worth it to someone else................ I have a different perspective on this as we started our own business parting out M cars and upper end big motor BMWs.

If it is in the North east, I'll take it and use AAA to tow it to a storage facility until I or my wife get back to the States in Aug.

You would be foolish to pay that much when non collision damaged examples sell for around 6k in similar condition with slightly higher mileage.

The motor sells for about $3500 in complete working condition regardless of what people think they are worth. S38B38, S50B32, S62 and S54 engines are the only ones selling above $5k in good used condition.

Google the conversion rates for dollar to euro. Bad examples in need of a good deal of repairs....all with low miles sell for $7000 euros.

The three M5s we've parted in the last year had under 100k Kilometers and they were trashed. Mileage means nothing.

I bought a M3 outside Houston 3 years ago with 118k for for $5800 off of Ebay. It needed a lot of work but was clear title without accident damage. Just poorly maintained.
