Ok, heres my delimma, im moving out of my house, into a place w some people on my track team. I dont have a computer which i want, and i dont have a sound system, which i also want.... to play my turntables through ( i need something with an auxillary function) SOO.. I was wondering if somehow i could play my tables through the soundsystem on the computer. I dont know if its possible, but im wondering if anyone knows..

I just need some IM capability/wordprocessing
I want something thats either laptop, or flatscreen monitor so it doesnt take up all the space on my desk.

As far as your audio issue is concerned..

Get a Sound Blaster Audigy 2... all the ports you'll ever want :)

most newer motherboards actually have pretty decent integrated sound with 5.1 / 6.1 channels and 16bit digital audio processing, but the audigy 2 is deffinately superior, especially the ones with the front 5.25" bay face plate (i know the ZS Platinum comes with one). also look into getting a decent set of computer speakers which shouldnt cost you more than 100-150.

I have a turntable/computer/mixer setup myself, here's how it goes:

                    computer<--usb--->SB extigy (basically an external audigy)<---rca--->really cheap 8ch. mixer<--xlr---->dj mixer<---rca---->turntables

there is a regular home stereo plugged into the cheapo mixer, with some decent bookshelf speakers. The cheap mixer is one of the best deals out there:
                    http://www.behringer.com/dx1000/index.cfm?lang=ENG it's under $200 new!
My party/PA system is different, it's a pair of powered speakers: http://mackie.com/products/srm450/SRM450_specs.html
and a homemade sub from a friend: http://kleissound.com/
                    and a QSC 1kW amplifier. :)

why do you have 2 mixers chris? I mean i understand the need for the DJ one, but whats the 8ch one for? So im still trying to understand if what im trying to do is possible. I have a stanton mixer, and 2 tables which are stanton and gemini. What do i need to purchase to make this work?

Oh god, please just don't buy the uber-cheap models... They're great little machines, it's just people think they can do everything off of a cheap system.. too many times i've had to deal with "i bought this system because the salesperson told me it can do everything"..

My advice, buy something not based on your budget, but based on what you need it to do.. you'll save yourself money and hassle down the line..

not to mention make me a happy tech support person :P

One mixer (the 2ch sj mixer) stays in the coffin with the decks, and ONE cord runs from that to the 8ch. mixer. The 8ch. has ins from: cdplayer, cdrecorder, computer, and adaptor from GF's laptop. I can post a diagram...
But I realize I am not answering your question.
                          What you need is
                          0) any soundcard, fuck quality, go ghetto until you have cash. cheap rules!
                          1) a cord that will go from the soundcard in the computer to...
1a) the mixer you already have!
                          2) a cord from mixer to...
                          3) an amp that drives...
                          4) a pair of real speakers
What you need to buy is an amp and a pair of speakers that wont just blow up the first time you crank it. I would buy something that has a warranty for an amp, but not something with shitloads of power.
http://sixstardj.com has the best prices I have found, I once bought 100 sets of sony mdr-v700 headphones from them.

                          amp: http://www.sixstardj.com/amdjgx.html $160
                          speakers: 2 of http://www.sixstardj.com/peavettls1.html $320

That's a competent PA system for $500 TOTAL! Holy bleeding eardrums batman!
It'll work fine for a home theater setup too, ask me how I know. :)

i might go without the amp for a while if thats possible. I dont need huge sound, i just wanna get back on my decks and practice, then ill make it loud when theres reason for it to be loud :pimp:

I build my own, but was just poking fun at their slogan. They are cheap though.
