The auto transmission in some E46 is mabe by General Motors. Check your facts; the others are made by Zf. Getrag only supply BMW with manual transmissions.

This isn't a deal about what is best and who makes the best cars. The point is, the reason that engine went into that cars is that
        1) Chevy engines are damn cheap and it is easy to get gobs of HP out of them
        2) Where else are you going to find a reasonably light rwd car to put that engine in?

It sucks for the balance of the car, but I am sure these chucleheads don't care. HP is god to them and the only thing that counts is their 1/4 mile time and the numbers game. Eh, it's lame, but it's their game. It doesn't impress me.

when i made this thread i wasn't like "hey look someone should do this" but shit obviously this guy has a good amount of cash to do sumtin like that. if i had to much money and didn't know what to do with it i'd probably do some stupid shit just because noone else has. he probably had the car and bought sumtin better. figured he might as well do something different. i'm sure he's no bmw enthusiaist though. i'm sure when he brings it places it draws serious attention. then everyone laughs at his wing

look at the new challenger, it's pure rubish.
I've worked on a couple of these, I actually like them to be honest. The seats are amazing. For what it is built for and it's intended audience, it fits in. It's not a bad car. I'd rock one. Have you seen the Top Gear episode?

Then search e46/e36 auto tranny fail and you'll see why GM tranny's suck and don't blame life time fluids because gm auto tranny's fail on there own vehicles at the same miles.

Too bad its a old skool SBC with a lame carb type supercharger set-up.
                  That equals total fail.

On a side note I've been in two of the LS1 powered cars pictured in post #18. :D

I do not approve. But I can see why someone would do it.

Also, think if you had lets say a toyota or something that you didn't care about, I would be a lot of you wouldn't feel bad about putting a 350 in one of those, but some die hard toyota guys would be mad.

that being said, I wouldn't put one in a BMW, but I would toss it in a miata or something because I couldn't care less about OE mazda.

a fully built chevy engine weighs in around 550lbs i believe... weight distribution means nothing if a driver cant drive.
