    What differential?

Wondering what gearing and type (LSD or open) came in a 1986 325e Auto. Wondering weather or not I should bother pulling it for my S50 swap before my car goes to the junker.

    Thanks
    -Alex Shiroma

I'm almost positive it was an open, most likely a 2:93 or 3:23?

If you've got the time, climb under the rear of the car on your back, and find the small metal tag attached to one of the rear bolts of the diff. You may have to scrape it off, there will be 15 years of road grime caked on it. There will be a number stamped into the tag, that's your diff ratio. If there's an "S" in front of the number, it's an LS. If there's just the number (most likely), it's open.

        I think it's 2:93, I don't think any of the Eta's came with a 3:xx, did they?

            Still at 2.93.

The 2.93 will work for the swap but unless you just wanna save a few hundred bucks find a 3.25 out of a 535 if you go with the M3 tranny or a 3.46 for an E30 tranny.
            Im now E30less.

Will be 2.79 or 2.93, manual or auto, doesn't matter. Only '88 Super Eta 5ers got a ratio over 3:1 (being 3.46:1---bitchin' setup for a tranny with 1:1 fifth)
