The low side would be going in to the compressor..cuz after it comes out of the compressor it is compressed, i.e. under pressure. Those look like r12 fittings to me, you can get fittings that screw onto them to enable you to put 134 into your system..not sure how well it is gonna work though.

2 is the low side. You HAVE to buy the kit to convert, you CAN NOT buy R12. it is a commercial product only and very expensive which is why most mechanics will automatically convert you to R134a since it is significantly cheaper. You can NOT just add R134 refrigerant to your system as is, it will destroy the system.

            Pelican Parts recommended it. Sorta.

If converting to R134, you're supposed to replace all the seals in the AC system to R134-compatible ones (including the seals in your compressor, so basically replace the compressor with an R134-compatible one), or the R134 will degrade them and you'll establish leaks everywhere. You're also supposed to replace the drier as you'll contaminate it as soon as you remove any lines.

As far as saying "fuck it" and dumping R134 in anyway, I guess I can see where you're coming from, but that's how to do it right, and that's what will happen if you don't.

you can buy r12 all day long on craigslist. plenty of people sell it. the demand has dropped off since most everything is r134 these days so leftover stocks of r12 have come down significantly in price.

                  Good point.

You should always stay R12 if you can. And if the price is lower, makes more sense.

                  R12 performs better than R134a.
