Afraid that the federal money will run out again quickly, car dealers who have taken cash-for-clunkers cars in trade are rushing to get them to salvage yards so they can apply for reimbursement.
sadly with many people who own our beloved cars they have no idea what they actually have,it's just there to get from A to B.I wish we could make an amendment to the law to exclude all bmw's
damn that article was depressing!! so the govt is actually making them put some kind of epoxy compound in the motor!! my god man. why couldnt they be sold to third world countries or reintegrated back into the us under a non daily driver registration or something. what about the poor people that cant afford to buy a pimp as prius (cough). and we need these engines to keep our modes of transportation running! outrages I tell you!
Does anyone remember a popular quote people used to use all the time? george washington actually said it, he said that the U.S. would be brought to her knees sometime in the future but she would rise again! It almost seems like the low point is neer!
what makes you think so called "third world countries" want our junkers? It's ok to pollute their air but not ours? I see far better cars (including tons of bmws) in most "third world" countries.
ps : i want to know which idiot traded that 535!

Ya I work at BMW of winston and we are doing the cash for clunkers. Had a 535i e34 traded in and we had to kill her. They use block buster takes about 10 seconds to kill the motor except when we put it in the E34 it took about 3 minutes. M30 is bulletproof.
I would gladly crush it again for $4500 and a new car. I'm waiting 'til 08/26 where the E38 turns 1 year in my possession and that'll go to cash for clunkers (if the money doesn't run out by then).
These are old cars. Sport models are hardly considered "vintage". Unlike the M cars that are going up in value, everything else is just somewhat meaningless.

Was it a 5 spd? Cause the transmission is salvageable! :D
