a QUALITY MIG welder is more $$, but it is WAY more flexable in what you can use it for.

if you are buying a first time MIG get something that is 110V and has an available gas kit. if you can spring for it, GET THE GAS KIT with the welder.

don't buy some harbor freight crap MIG welder. you are just wasting your money, it won't be long before you find out how bad it is and you are looking for an upgrade. save up and make a quality first purchase if you are serious.

one thing to remember too. the welder runs on electricity, who is paying the power bill where you are using it?
are mom and dad going to shit their pants after you speend a few weekends playing with your new toy for 12+ straight hours each day?
a welder can run up your power bill in a hurry!

    just something to concider..........

Meh... it's for a school project, so my dad will pay half the cost. So I'm confused, how can you use a MIG welder without the gas kit??

they make a flux core wire, it splatters and leave lots of slag. it can do the job in a pinch or a very high wind situation where you can not block it from blowing away your gas shield. it wont lay down a very pretty weld though.

that is what comes with most cheap MIG welders without gas kits.

check out these guys for a dam good quality welder at a decent price. great people to deal with too!

^^ Okay flux core wire, that's what I thought. But then you're essentially just stick welding correct?

if your fittings were anodized, hit them with the torch first for a preburn to burn off the coating. sometimes it will mess with your welds, otherwise, getting better!

                              I used a wire wheel.

                              GOOD TIP!
