    Anyone with Globaljig? (Traction bed)

    Hello guys,

first off, I want to say we oen a traction bed, Globaljig brand, it's absolutly manual, no fancy laser or PC operated, liek the old school. We have the the manual for messures from the Globaljig manufacture (traction bed) for the e30 and the e30 ix models. The M3 e30 , should be catalogued as the regular e30 judging by the manual, we even asked them if the e30 M3 had different values for the chassis, but they said it is the same as the rgular e30.

My problem right now is that the shock towers seems are off from the manual values and what caught my attention was the pointer position that should go in the middle of the shock tower, where the shock nut goes and shouled seat there is my thinking but the manual doesn't specify it nor says if the strut should be taken out of the car or jsut mounted, so the height will vary depending on this subject. The manual shows the shock tower stright in the draw( looking from the side) but as we know, they are "angled" so, we can't be 100% accurate taking the values there.

I can give more deatils, but before that I would really like to know if someone here or have a friend, who owns this bed AND/OR if someone has the chassis values from factory to get it stright at factory values and comapre with mine.

    Thanks fro any tip/help.

    -Diego

take everything out of the car that you definitely know is damaged and then take your measurements.

i am not totally sure what you are trying to measure.

are the strut towers moved in or out or do you think they are up or down?

was the car in an accident?
do you think that they moved (hard driving w/o a strut bar?)

if you are just looking to see if they have moved, you can just measure it with a tram (you should have one at the shop somewhere). first side to side then cross measure it. if you get any deveations then there is a problem. you "should" just be able to print off the specs from your estimating system for the upper chassis and get actual numbers to use. you can also take your tram and take measurements from another M-3 then compair the 2.
a strut tower repair is obvious if it has been replaced and even more so if it has had work done to it to correct damage. look for signs of this before you take the measurements from the other M-3 as correct.

if you get the measurements from the estimating system, they should tell you the different measurements with the suspension in or out.

if you can find someone with a Cellette system at their shop, they have pretty good measurement charts to go along with the assembly instructions.

feel free to pm me if you want and i can figure out what you have or a way to get it corrected.

Thanks for the suggestions. I traced some points and the towers are about the same, BUT we don't know if the values are correct because the globaljig manual give certain values , I eneter these values and judging by the pics, the pointers are way off.

We belevie the regular e30 it's quite different than the e30 m3, but that's soemthing I can't confirm yet from our initial test and comparison even with my e30 325is, an dmy other e30 m3.

I have pics and I can detail you better so you can udnerstand it a lot better. Do you have a email?

PS: The car is stripped, no engine , trans, interior, etc...just the shell sitting on the traction bed.
