The NBA is ghetto as hell now, and everyone comes from the hood.

Part of being a PROFESSIONAL athlete is taking ridicule from fans, whether it be verbal or having shit thrown at you. I guess these fucking kids can't take the abuse...

ok. since it seems half of the people who responded don't watch basketball, or any sport for that matter...as a professional you are going to take all the verbal abuse and let it slide. being a visitor at a large arena is not an easy task. there is a line that is crossed when people throw shit at you. fans are NOT ALLOWED to do this. words are words, when you physically attempt to hurt someone, the gloves are off. that's it. the line is drawn. the fan has absolutely no business to do that sort of stupid shit. it is EASY to toss a beer at someone, but reprocussions do come your way. in this case, they got clocked in the head by a ghettoass kid whom they thought they could get away with throwing beer at. sure, they should all be fined considerably, but i would hope the retarded fans who escalated a normal shoving match over a hard foul into an all-out arena mob get punished to the fullest extent of the law.

I think the fan that hit Artest was a shithead who got what he had coming. However, I think it was immature of Artest to rush into the stands and attack the fan whether or not he was provoked. He basically caused a riot in the stadium and made his franchise and the NBA look very bad. He should have been the bigger man and let security deal with the assholes in the crowd rather than lowering himself to their level (not that he wasn't there already I guess).

What if football players ran into the crowd every time they got hit by something from the crowd? A lot of college games would be cancelled.

I agree, but... It would make for really entertaining TV

                            Bottom line:Pro or not
1.) You walk on court to talk smack: You get your ass beat
2.) You throw anything: You get your ass beat
3.) You yell things about people's children: You get your ass beat

Wasnt he instigating shit by lying on the scorers table? They never show that part.

The fan was a prick yes but any idiot knows that you dont fuck up a 5 million dollar job over getting a beer thrown on you. Im sure those 3 ounces of liquid hurt soo much that you needed to assult someone.

Hopefully his career is permanently marred/ruined by this, its the only way he will really learn his lesson. Instead of fines they should have Bobby knight coach these guys for a while. Then he could lay on the scorer's table while Bobby chokes him out.
                              Im now E30less.
