    REALOEM Question

Hey guys, quick question. I posted the serial number of an e30 I'm thinking about buying (I miss my old one :() in a vin decode thread on another forum but haven't gotten a response yet.

So I plugged it into REALOEM. When I went to the rear axle section, it showed the LSD, and not an open diff.

Is this a reliable way of telling if it has the LSD?

    Thanks in advance,
    -Eric

If you have an LSD, it will have an S stamped on it.

I know, but I haven't bought the car yet, and I don't feel like crawling through the mud where it's parked to find out.

        Burn out!

You can jack up the rear and spin one tire, if they go the same way it's lsd, open will go opposite way. As stated there is an s stamp on lsd models, there is also a steel tag bolted onto the cover that will say the ratio and if it is lsd or not.

I know that too, but this is a barn find if you will. It's in about 4 inches of mud on a farm in SE Minnesota. Might be cow shit too, I'm not about to find out. Point is, I can't really get under it or jack it up.

Here's a thought, does someone have a non-LSD e30 that they could punch the serial number in and see if shows the LSD or an open diff?

an lsd was an option on e30's and i don't think realoem is smart enough to know which ones had that option. i wouldn't trust it. just wait and get your vin decoded. mine came back pretty fast when i did mine. maybe try it again. good luck

LSD's were standard on a few models, if it wasn't swapped out, and realoem says it has one, it has one.

if you go to any dealer with the vin

you can ask them to print out the original spec sheet from your car

it will also list any recalls its ever been in for
