In less than 3 years of driving, I have been pulled over exactly 10 times. I've gotten two tickets, during the first 2 times I pulled over. I had a radar detector on for those last 8 times. Every time since the cop didn't have hard evidence on me. Seeing the radar detector, they usually know that they can't scare me into thinking they actually have something on me when they don't. Cops around here like to hastle high school kids - ticketing 17 year olds for going 35 in a 30, but ignoring soccer moms doing 45 on the same street. I haven't been pulled over in almost a year. 8 of the 10 were for alleged speeding, 1 time the cop thought I was under 18 and breaking curfew, and another time because of a mix-up with the registration sticker on my license plate.
On my way home from school last year for Thanksgiving break, I got pulled over because a cop heard me speeding from the next street. Yay for Stromung exhaust. I had just gotten out of two hours of shitty Boston traffic, and I needed to let off some steam. So I redlined the first two gears on an uninhabited backroad. By the time the cop actually saw my car and caught up to me, I had stopped. He had nothing on me, I knew it, and he knew that I knew. He didn't even bother taking my license and registration to his cruiser or trying to give me a warning. I just repeatedly denied speeding, and said I never exceeded the 30mph limit. After a minute or so of arguing with me, he just left.
Never admit to doing anything wrong in any driving situation, whether it was a car accident or you got pulled over for speeding. Also, if you do get pulled over for something, get your registation and license ready by the time the officer gets to your window. Put the documents on the dash and keep your hands on the steering wheel unless the cop tells you to do something. They usually appreciate the cooperation and making it obvious where your hands are.
