    shifting feels weird? HELP!

Hey guys, when i shift my car in a stand still it feels normal. But when i shift while moving it feels really soft.... Like a sponge. The clutch pedal feels fine its just the shifter. But after moving it goes back to normal... It goes back to soft after the next shift. This started after bad a hard shift to second.

    Anyone have any ideas?

The car has a 6puck unsprung clutch...

I was going to change the gear oil this week because it whines a little at higher speeds...

    THNX GUYS

can it be bushings for the shift linkage? But why would it feel normal at a standstill? The clutch maybe? Any suggestions guys? I dont want to drive it like this and end up stranded cuz it wont go into gear or something? thnx again

Could be the linkage. I'd check it just so you can eliminate it as a variable. But there really is no reason to flat-shift these cars...

ok found out what flat shifting is. that is almost what i did i missed the gear and the clutch was being depressed when i went into the gear. It didnt grind or anything just felt like rubber or somthing got in the way and now thats the feeling i get..

The rods actually are kinda a common failure point in salty places. They tend to get kinked after a hard shift like that if they have already been weakened. Glad I could help :) Enjoy your stay haha

yeh my stay has been here for a while i just don't post much, i just usually just search. But this time it just felt weird. I didnt think it was the bushings and i didnt think it was the tranny itself... I woulda never guessed it would be the rod snapping lol.

Hey guys i installed, the selector rod. It shifts but reverse is hard to get and sometimes it grinds and pops out. The whole shifter it self feels like it's a little forward, when it is in fourth it looks like where neutral was. Gears R,1,3,5 all tap the console. But the shifter isn't really sloppy or anything.

                          Somebody got a clue?

Could i have bent something else?

Well i installed part number 25111220838 its a selector rod for a 1988 325i. I have a 1988 325e, realoem says part number 25111221054. Anybody know if this matters? My car doesnt have that giant metal plate like the older e30s.

                            Help please guys. thnx

the difference in selector rod shouldnt matter, but it's possible that your shift linkage is still bent, or the bushings need to be replaced, or both.
