chin height is a loose criteria, it also depends on weight, riding preference, and snow pack. to sum up, i am to smashed on bombay sapphire and too deep in in CoL homework to help. google it...
What kind of riding does he do? Freestyle? Freeride? Everything?
In general, you'll go for a shorter board for freestyle, longer board for freeride.
I would say, at his weight he would be between 158 and 166, depending on his skill level and personal preference.
That's why I picked that one right in the middle. 163 will be long enough for powder and at 6'3", he should be able to whip the back around for fast carving.
I ride a 147 or 152
I basically only ride the park.
I'd buy another board for the odd times when my local mountain gets some good dump, but don't have the cash flow for that.
Size is significant in deciding a board, but the type of board is also extremely important. So tell us what kinda riding he does and we can try to pick out a good board for him. Also give us a budget too.
I'm 6"0, 158lbs, and ride a Morrow Unit 156cm. It's a great size...freeride board. Awesome for riding fast, very stable, but also easy whipped around. 360's are a breeze.
I'll reccommend a freeride board (not too flexy) between 156 and 160 if you don't knwo what kind of riding he does or if he's never done it before.
- 2000 Audi S4 Stg 2 (sold)
- house (bought)
- 1997 Civic Hatch (shaky but driveable)
- 2010 Sportster 1200 Forty Eight Ed. (vroom)
- 1991 318is S50B30 (TBA)
He just rides down the slopes mostly, so freeride? The budget is $150 its kinda cheap so It doesnt have to be a package deal or anything just the board.
Thanks
Rossi's premier is super stiff, but it's a good all-around board. When he gets intot snowboarding a lot, he will be happy that he doesnt have a pos from target or whatever.
159 is a little small, but would be fine. Something between 159-165 would be good :D
and i recommend a sidewall board. Cap is the evil, de-lam is a bitch.
My Timeless has been holding up pretty well for the last 3 years.
yah. Sorry, i overgeneralized. I just find the sidewall construction or hybrid to be superior. Holds up the edges way better in the snow i find.
After I got rid of my cap board, i never look back.
If the budget is $150, i would recommend looking around for any shops that have any of last years stock leftover, or waiting till the end of the season. I always buy mine at the end of the season and pay half price. Board technology isn't increasing that quickly, so you can get a much better board for a good price.
