Anyone esle looking to replace thier Convertible Top before winter?

Hey Guys,
Just wondering if anyone else is going to be replacing their top before winter hits, or even fall. I have been waiting to purchase a new top for about a year now and am thinking if we get a few of us together we may be able to get some kind of group deal. I have talked with TopsOnline.com and they can do A very nice German Canvas Top with Tension Straps and Cables for $550 shipped. This is the closest to OEM that I have found and have heard tons of good stuff about these guys. I am thinking if 5 or so of us get together we may be able to get em to take 10% off and get 'em for under $500. If anyone is interested post here. This may be a long shot, but could be worth it too.

I have been working my butt off for the past month to make enough money to get a new top and tension straps before winter/fall hits. If i bought the top and tension straps from these guys or from anywhere else, would a local shop put it on for me? I do i have to buy their kind of top for them to put it on? thanks

I just did this myself, and can say without any reservation that the "german canvas" is not worth the coin.

The "sonnedeck" canvas is one step down, looks EXACTLY the same (inside and out), has the same warranty, and is of the same quality.

I bought my top from topsonline and cant see a difference between the two when side by side.

I saved the cash ont he fabric and spent it on new seals, was well worth the $$$.

that being said, tops online is the best place to get your new top, straps and cables online..excellent prices and good service.



EDIT: For thoes looking todo a perfect restore the german might be worth the $$, but for me it wasnt

Good to know, I have heard they look the exact same but the difference is that its American canvas that has the German textured backing on it. you may not notice this when comparing them side by side but it may become apparent in the long run. Its only a matter of $30 and could offer some extra piece of mind.



Also I know a lot of shops buy their tops from this manufacturer, so even if you buy the top from the installer you may be getting the same top, but they will likely charge you more for it. I don't think that you would have any problem taking the top to someone to have it put on. But you could always save yourself some money and do it yourself. These tops do come with instructions and there are some great tutorials on the top installation available online for free.

looks like we may have 3 interested parties so far. This is pretty good. I may troll on BF.c and E30tech to see If I can find some more interest over there. Once I get 5 I will contact them to see if we can get a deal.

nice 4 down 6 to go. I have spoke to the manager down at tops online and he said he would crunch some numbers and get back to me tomorrow before noon. I will go ahead and post what kind of deal we will be getting and see how long it will take to get these done. I will be contacting everyone interested by PM once I get official results. thanks
