    effects of retarding ignition?

This is kind of a general question... are there any negative effects of retarding the ignition besides lost power?

How effective is retarding the ignition to run more boost safely?

    thanks

    Hey Mike,

Ignition timing isn“t just retarding and advancing, as the idea is to find the correct amount of advance for the timing,

so retarding it is only from the stock point of view, or less advanced,

Correct ignition timing will net, better fuel economy, power, smoothness, and wear on the motor,

Having a fuel injection you can control the advancement of the ignition so it can be ideal under all the conditions your motor can put it self in,

under boost retarding the ignition you gain time to let the piston comes a little higher so there will be no pinking/knocking/pre-detonation,

Retarding the ignition is very effective, you can ask TCD on this chat forum when they built their 325i turbo they simply added fuel and retarded ignition, 259rwhp was one figure I remember, bellive it was 10psi of boost and all stock internals

hey, thanks gunni. Do you know how bad pinging is? Last night I was driving around and slowly pushing the pedal towards WOT until I heard pinging, then would reconfig the SMT6, then go back to driving and listening for pinging. Do you think theres any harm in doing this?
