Hello all, I recently purchased a 1986 325 that is currently undergoing final stages of an m30 swap. All that's needed is the one off one piece aluminum drive shaft to be finalized and balanced. The swap is being done by an indy out of New Buffalo MI. The car currently has H&R springs, Bilstein shocks, a larger core aluminum radiator, electric fan, 4:10 gear, 2.5 open exhaust with a free flowing muffler and a custom tune. All rust areas have been addressed and repaired with metal and filler however a professional paint job will be needed. This car will primarily be a track/autocross car for my son and I to enjoy. The 335 will definitely see the streets of MI with out a doubt.
I don't have any worthy pics of the 335 because it looks bad right now with the exposed metal and body work going on but here are a few of my current vehicles.

I dunno dude, with a 4.10 and an m30 1st and 2nd are going to be pretty useless.

I think I may have read a few of your post explaining this. I read that an ideal setup would be a 3:46. I won't be able to tell until I bring it home and tear some pavement up. The builder began with a 2:93 lsd and a custom drive shaft made too thin. The drive shaft eventually broke taking out the exhaust. With the 2:93 high speeds were fine but the take off suffered. All we had left was the 4:10. I agree with you 100% on it being a tire burner in 1st.
I'm currently looking for a 3:46 gear just in case.;)

I won't say 3.46 is ideal, since I haven't actually tried it, but seeing that my 3.73 was drivable and fun but just a little too much in 1st it would lead one to surmise that a 3.46 would be the next logical choice.

You might wait for some of the other m30 guys to chime in to see what they're running.

EDIT: you might offer your 4.10 in trade for a 3.46 to someone on the board, that might be easier than buying one. Of course, only if you try the 4.10 and don't like it.

That makes a lot of sense.

The performance will suffer. I currently have a custom tune and the full pipe is very necessary. I too would love a shorter pipe but shorter isn't always better. Many guys around me run with growlers, Boz Bros, and all the other shorties only to get killed on the track. They do get more props on the streets however.

My 3.25 diff is just a little too tall with my m30, so I too think a 3.46 would be best.

Lets see some pics! You have a nice collection so far.

Welcome. Nice to see another e30 enthusiast in Michigan, though you're on the opposite side of the state from me. I feel so alone over here getting picked on by Mustangs and Camaros and rich kids in e46's.

Welcome. I am going to be doing a bunch of work on my brothers 03 540i 6speed m-tech car.... 3 boxes worth of parts due in tomorrow lol.

I couldn't live with s3.73 and m30b35/g260/6. 1st gear is useless, have to shift up at about 20mph. Can easily start in second. I am removing it hopefully tomorrow to install a 3.25. 3.46 would probably be fine as well, but I plan on adding more power to my swap so i picked a 3.25.
