I've had a Sony shelf system in my bedroom forever. Since the 9th grade, the goddamn CD player has been broken so I just get the radio.
Well, as a Xmas present to myself, I've decided to buy a new music system for my room. I would be very nice to listen to "New York" by Ja Rule, or "Breathe" by Fabulous as I wake up and get ready to conquer another day rather then the stupid antics of the morning DJ's who put together probably have an IQ of 30.
Requirements:
Must have good sound, yet does not need to rock the house as I already have a great computer speaker system, home entertainment system, and of course car audio system.
Must have the option to wake up to a CD track (Alarm)
Must be reasonably compact
A futuristic/exotic/trendy look would be preferable
Looking to spend under $300
Must play CD-R/MP3
I really like the looks of the Sharper Image player:
$165 isn't too bad. Anyone have anything to say about these? This summer in NYC, I popped into a sharper image and heard this system or a similar one and thought the sound was pretty good. Seems to meet all my requirements and comes in at half my max price.
Of course this is also tempting:
