I know this is E30 speific forum, but I want an E36

You'll end up doing the same thing with an E36 if you lower it. Mine isnt even slammed and I scrape the frame rails on lots of little stuff. If there's anything I've learned from building an S52 E30 and driving an S52 M3, it's that an M20 turbo E30 is the way to go. Seems like a lot less trouble to build, especially if you dont have the facilities or money for the S50/52 swap.

Thanks guys, well If I still decide to pursue a E36, it's definitely going to be a M3, I would like a sedan, but may go for a coupe.

I mean I love my E30, I enjoy driving it, but the E36 is appealing to me more and more everyday. Plus I'm looking forward to the HP from the M3, although I know I can do the same to my E30, I just don't have the money to drop an S50/S52 in the car, or the time or place. Another thing too is I plan on keeping the M3 stock for the most part, maybe exhaust and a little lower suspension, nothing major. Problem with my E30 is I've lowered it so much, I have to be careful when I'm driving, otherwise I'd tear the bottom of my car up. I don't want to raise it back up because I love the way it looks so much.

Yeah. But on the other hand I've seen E30's built for less than $3k (including chassis) that make E46 M3's look like mopeds, and can be reliably daily driven.

Which car is more fun is a matter of opinion. I do enjoy driving E30's more than any of the newer cars I've driven/owned. My best driving memories have been behind the wheel of 20+ year old cars.

Any E36 M3s are very nice cars. If you can get one for a decent price, do it. There is no reason not to. E36 M3s will only appreciate from here on out. Don't listen to all the talk about "real" M3s and what car is "more fun to drive" etc. Bottom line, its a BMW, its an M3, it looks good, it drives well, drive one and see for yourself.

My little brother has a '95 M3, and it has been totally reliable for him, and he has beaten a souped up classic Chevy Monte Carlo, an LT1 camaro, and other american cars in drag races, all of whom would not even turn to look at my little bro in his M3 out of embarrassment. Can't do that in any stock E30 for that costs less than $10,000.

before i get flamed, i am a die-hard E30 fan, i will never own an E36 (unless i run across a steal for an M3), but i am just looking at the facts. all that crap about the E36 being more "mainstream" and "mild-mannered" is BS. Not facts.

96+ is the way to go, as it has the updated nose panel and side repeaters. The 99 car's have the 3 spoke wheel that I like as well.

While 96+ did have the OBDII 3.2L, the 96 model retained the nose and side markers of the 95 car. Also, the 3-spoke wheel was introduced halfway through the 98 model year, along with rear headrests and illuminated shift knob.

Sorry. Not trying to be a corrective douche, but if Holmes wants a facelifted/updated E36, he will want the 97+ instead.

So 96+ M3 is the way to go? Would like to have a M3 sometime in my life. How are the later model inline 6's? Not too sharp on e36's but I didn't go with a m3, would like a 6.

96+ is the way to go, as it has the updated nose panel and side repeaters. The 99 car's have the 3 spoke wheel that I like as well.
