    Options for Ignition key

Yes... flimsy key. Its twisted and about to snap. What do I do? Call the $tealer and get one using my vin, or ebay and cut it.

depending on where it's twisted you may not be able to get it cut, I normally get mine done at Home Depot and haven't had any problems. If it's too bent out of shape then off to the dealer you go!

The trick is to have more than one key. If you break one you can use your good one to make a new one and to use in the meantime. If you don't want to spend the jack on the fancy key at the dealer go to a real locksmith and ask for a copy, the blank is an Ilco X52 BMW2

I snapped mine off in the ignition the morning before leaving for Bfest09. Called up the dealer and you have to bring in your registration, title, all kinds of stuff and then they wanted $100 for a "BMW" key. Long story short... I payed almost $100 for a key made by a local key dude. what a fuckin rip off it was. Get it copied now! before it snaps lol

my dealer VIN cut key is 1,000,000 times better than the copy i had made at a hardware store. the steel is stronger, and the cut is waay more accurate. wouldnt get another one anywhere else but the dealer.

Exactly. And they should't be $100 or even $60 either. $20-30 at most.

Go to your dealer and get your key number (you may even be able to do this over the phone). Then buy a blank e30 key from eBay (or where ever), and have your local locksmith cut the new key. Since they retrieve the key information from the key number, it doesnt matter if your key is snapped, bent, or just worne down.

I did this when I lost my only key. Didn't cost me much and still going strong a year later.

I got my e30 a year ago without a real key, only a couple locksmith copies. One broke when it wasn't in the car after about 6 months. I started using one of the other copies and about six months later it broke as I started the car. A locksmith couldn't get it out, it was a thousand dollar ordeal at the dealer. A new real bmw key from the dealer was less than 50 bucks and feels way stronger. Whatever you do make sure it's nice and strong.
