Is there any specific technique to drifting, or do you just go for it? Sometimes I run with the local import clan, (Turbo eclipses, talons, DSMs, subaru's) and they like to do it(drifting) afterhours in parking garages. Any tips?

if you dont know how to drift..i would stay away from enclosed places like parking garages....does your car have an LSD? If so you can get away with more on-power oversteer, if not you can always rely on weight transfer to sling out the rear, but that usually requires a little more speed..from what i've tried.

i dont think i have LSD, unless it came on an 86eta. generally, i dont do it in enclosed areas, parking lots are fun. i usually pick my point, and get up to speed, let off a little bit before the turn, and turn the wheel. usually the speed im carrying will break the tires loose, both front and back.

driftin is all about a controlled oversteer
the E30, like most all BMW's, is balanced nicely. This helps the handling in a slide.
A LSD is crucial for drifting.
Anyway, what it seems you are doing is driving fast and going in a skid. I could go fast and make my tires screech and car slide in my old Integra.....that's not drifting!
Drifting is when the rear end slides out and the car stays balanced in a controlled slide. It's hard to really put into words. If you see a car going around a turn, and the rear end pops out, and the nose faces the apex inward.....but the car DOESN'T spin out.....that's a drift. A driftin car looks like it's almost floatin sideways.
I have an LSD so it's easy to get a drift (aka powerslide) in order. I ran snow tires in stock size before my M20 broke. I'd go around a nice turn and hear the tires quietly whine at the limit......then i slightly pressed down a lil more on the pedal....and the rear end would kick out. That kicking out is a power slide. I'd then let off and steer my car back.
If you don't know how to recover your car from a skid or oversteer, don't fuck around with driftin. I might not be the best driver. But a long ordeal with snow-covered roads last year taught me how to steer and countersteer to save my ass.
A BMW in the rain is the best place to practice countersteering. It's second nature now. Because it had to be......stock sized snow tires in the rain, with a chipped M20....... oh yeah....... i had to know how to countersteer!
To learn how to drift, want some driftin videos and see what is really going on. Have a friend who can drift take you out. A 240SX, BMW w/ LSD, etc. etc. would be good cars for this.
Drifting is not turning while going really fast! That's called a skid!
Drifting is a controlled slide.

I suppose I could be "cool" and "drift" my car on the street into oncoming traffic like some of you children.

Yeah, I know those places aren't proper. I drift on public roads but whatever, that's me. All I'm saying is that Charlie you dont need to be such a dick about that stuff man. The guy wanted some advice on drifting you gave him a link. So why the hell make that statement? That was uncalled for. You need to keep those stupid as comments to yourself. Just say them when you're driving your ti.

Charlie, I completely agree, I go drifting. In a controlled place, with NO other people.
This is NOT something I would recommend to ANYONE since it can be VERY dangerous.
And I would love to see someones BMW end up as parts for ME when they
don't follow advice that others (Evidently a lot more experienced than you 16yr
old highschool rice queens) who know more about driving and how to control
a car.
I had a friend I went to college with, who thought it would be cool to go drifting
at Mt. Rainier, well he thought he was a good driver, and matter of fact, he WAS
a good driver, and he killed everyone in the car....
