Jarvis and Rob - It's a matter of opinion. Performance isn't everything (for me).

Having said that, I would much prefer to drive an Audi A4 or VW Jettas than a Neon with great performance.
WRX...same story. I think it looks ugly as hell. I would not want to buy one regardless of the performance.

If I had to choose a newer turbo car with 4 doors, and for around 20k, I would choose the Audi A4, or used Jetta GLIs (that come with BBS RCs - its a lil past 30,000 Canadian new, so Im assuming one could find one for around 20 US?)

I think that the GLIs are nice, fairly fast, lots of room, looks good, it's one of the few cheap new cars that I like.

        Probably.

I never said brand new, off the showroom A4s. I was talking about used. Same with the Jettas.

EDIT: I see 2000-01 Audi A4 1.8T go for around 20,000 in Vancouver.

The second an Audi leaves the lot, resale drops like $5K. You can pick up late '90s A4s for CHEAP.

Same with some of the VWs. Actually many 'luxury' cars such as Lexus, Audi have pretty bad depreciation in their first couple years, oh well.

            But what's your point?

Do you think that the SRT4 have much better resale value? :?

I personally don't care what happens to the resale value of SRT-4s. I'll never be buying one. Too ugly. Plus I'm not a fan of FWD. The only FWD car I could see myself buying and having fun with would be an oldschool Rabbit or GTI, new or old Mini, or a very well set-up Integra.
I could however see myself picking up a used A4 though (2.8 or 3.0, not 1.8T). That would only work out if I could find a way to get Audi parts super cheap, since I'd probably have to fix 10 things a week. :?

but for a daily, i'd much prefer a brand new car, or at least cars new enough to still have some warranty life left in them. Depreciation is unavoidable with cars this new.

I think the distinction (more accurately the entire lack there of) between audis and VW is a huge turn off. I mean unless you spend more than the budget, you're gonna look for all intents and purposes like some sorority chicks silver jetta...I'd rather have an ugly america car, at least ugly is distinctive...of course the sleeper thing sort of counters that.

point is, if he wants a newer daily with a turbo, there's going to have to be some compromises, just like with any automotive criteria short of a blank check...

stick to the turbos my friend - I have many non-turbo cars that I would like to buy under 20k too ;)

There really aren't too many newer 4dr turbo car for around $20,000.

Audi A4 1.8t (Quattro) or even a S4 if you get used
                    VW Jetta 1.8t (Gli)
                    VW Passat
                    SRT4
                    WRX
PT Cruiser (even worse than a neon haha)
                    Volvo S40/60/70/80
                    Saab 93 (2.3 turbo?)

Those are the only cars I can think of, that meets the requirement.

Last I heard warrentys on Srt4s that had been autoxed or modded were being voided.

A guy I work with bought one just like that 2 months ago. 1 month ago it burst into flames while his girlfriend was driving it. She got out no problem, but the car burned to the ground.

                          agreed.

There's only a handful of cars that meets his requirement anyway. He should just drive them all and see what he likes.

It does make sense to buy a new car for sure - then the SRT4 is the only option. Too bad it's so damn ugly I'm not just being biased towards American cars, but you gotta admit, that car has no place in the 'looks' category haha

i dont think that the srt-4 would be a great daily driver after making this tread i check on the other fourms srt-4 and wrx fourms and it seems both these cars arent the greatest....maybe it would be more logical for me to find a used GSX or sumtin like that for half the price....

i dunno i think i would like sumthing turbo that i could do a few mods to and have some fun with while working on the e30 on the weekends or what not...any insight on any turbo cars you have owned previously wheter it be new or old....i kno dubs have horrible trannys so im not gonna look for a used 1.8t...thoughts

Riiiight. Leave a WRX or SRT for a DSM, for RELIABILITY REASONS?!

SRT-4's are sweet, and the R&D Mopar is putting into parts is crushing the aftermarket, great stuff.
