    That'll get you nowhere, haha

Try just going 180° and then you might have some luck! :)

which bushing in the trans are you refering to?
the yellow one that goes on the end of the selector shaft and that the kuckle fits over?

    both of those are new.

you need to replace the shifter knuckle and the bushing in the trans. that's where your side to side is coming from.

Keep in mind the EARLY 83-85? shifters were not one piece like the z3 1.9 etc (well the z3 1.9 isn't one piece either if you think about how it's made at the factory, but the early e30 shifters become VERY worn out and add more play).

I've had the early sheet metal console and the newer style with all new hardware and z3 1.9 and in both cases it doesn't hit the console in any gears at all. Now, the original 84 318i shifter would hit the console in reverse no problem lol.

THats what happens in my car, I can't get it into reverse unless I actually push it far enough into the console, my shift boot is ruined because of it.

I have a sheet metal with a Z3m, It doesn't hit the console. It isn't bent and actually it sits forward because I had to raise the rear of the console to prevent it from rubbing on the driveshaft. It's ghetto but I don't have welding skills to raise it the right way. I need to bend the shifter to sit center, it's a bit off. It never hits though and has been working fine.

I'm buying akg delrin bushings for the shift carrier arm

taking out the fuel tubing that went inside the front joint and add the oem
    yellow circular bushing

replace the original rear console bushing

hopefully with all of that it wont rub ever again
