    The 10 comandments of BMW

a friend of mine just gave me an old drivers manual from a early 80's BMW

so this might not be new to many of you , or new to some of you who have nto seen one, but I thought it was fun to read the manual, even though mine is a 91

it has one whole section on how to exersize, stretching, etc

    then has........ THE 10 COMANDMENTS
I see charlton heston yelling these out at a rally

I thought it was intersting that BMW used that phrase, and reading through them , one ( tire inflation) is not in capitals, so maybe it was not that important, but it helped bring the number to 10

    10 Commandments

    1) Skillful driving pays off where it is needed most: under difficult situations ( BMW puts you at ease wtih a good car)
    2) Sensible use of engineering excellence ( safety and performance equipment)
    3) The instruments show you the way to economy ( know your torque range)
    4) Thoughtfulness reduces the burden on you and your tank
    5) A high average is better then high speed ( steady speeds instead of jack rabbit starts and stops)
    6) Driving with tires under-inflated reduces their useful life
    7) Energy disappearing (talks of drag coefficient)
    9) A united effort to reach a common target (lower fuel use in europe)
    a) BMW engine technology makes it easy for you to adopt a reasonable approach
    b) A BMW responds with smooth power delivery
    10) Having faith is good, checking is better
This one refers to filling your gas tank, interestingly it says when you fill up you should manually rock your car to get rid of air pockets

    oh well, enjoy

Rocking the car to get rid of air pockets? Does that actually work?

Sensible use of engineering excellence then why do things break so often? Overly complex engineering would be a more accurate statement.

I have had to fix plenty of E30's too. Most of my friends have E30's and we are always fixing something. Doesn't matter what model. I have owned quite a few different brand cars and have been working on them and other peoples cars for 26 years and have never once had one that needed to be fixed as often as a BMW. BMW's are great cars and I love them but they are maintenance whores.

You seem to complain a lot more on wednesday nights than any of us e30 guys. But maybe that just a personal problem ;)

Besides, aren't you supposed to be working now? Or are you on your 'union' break?

my e12 has got... well... rear brakes in teh last year... and i have put 30K on it. BMW's are not maintenance whores, they are driven hard and fun to work on. At least thats why im always working on my e30

I am old, I always complain. The DOD server at work doesn't let me get on this site so I am never on here during the duty day. I took the week off to move into my new house. All together I get 384 hours of leave a year and need to use it sometime.

No longer stock ride height, rolling as low as a daily driver in New England should without worrying about breaking an oil pan.

e30s need working on a lot because theyre all 20+ years old and when you buy one for 1500 bucks like most people, there's a lot of lost maintenance to catch up on. unless you do it all at once, its gonna catch up to you one by one. dont bash the car! they're far from complex. my 1987 celica gt-s is more complex in almost every way. not to mention far harder to work on and far less information for.

sohc i-6 complex? Everything to be fixed is easy on these cars unless its a electrical/ecu gremlin.

The guy that wrote this must have made the Motoring ad gruppe for Mini later in his career.
