Ticket!

GRRRRRR.....i was driving home, minding my own business enjoying the cool weather..and...the car in front of me was going slooooooow...so I signaled right, changed lanes and accelerated to pass..passed, and signaled to get back into the left lane...as i was getting back into the left lane a passing COP flipped around and turned on his lights...yep he wanted me...

Soooo he says i was doing 53 in a 40...and then tells me that the car that WAS in front of me was doing 41...soo i got a ticket for $$133.75!! No warning, no "what were you doing", nothing..just..you were speeding and here is your ticket!

Anyone know a good lawyer for Charleston SC...ive had a clean record for 15 YEARS!!! :curse: no need to mess it up now...

You can go to court and plead your good driving record and they will throw it out.

i got 80.... in a 55.... ya. go to traffic school and they won't put any points on you. you'll have to pay a fine, and you should get a lawyer but, its worth it to keep you record clear.

Yeah not sure what i will do you- talked to someone I know who had two-- one his wife got and one he got, both times the same judge waived the fee and dropped the points to 2...because he was military (he went in uniform since it was the middle of the work day). So I may play the military card (going in Uni)...but i would rather pay the fine and get no points...

maybe I'll offer to pay the full fine in exchange for no points??

Plead not guilty. Go to court. Be super polite. Don't say anything bad about the officer/trooper who pulled you over. Admit that you weren't really paying attention to your speed and that, in retrospect, the pass was probably a stupid move. Ask the judge and officer/trooper to consider your clean driving record and please go easy on you.

The key is to be polite and not get into it with the officer/trooper. Show that you respect them and you're not questioning their judgment or good intentions.

If you go there with the attitude that you're right and the officer is wrong and you're going to prove to everyone that the guy was being a dick, then you're basically f-cking yourself. The message has to be: "I know I was driving like a jerk that day, but it's really out of character for me. Please don't punish me for a momentary lapse of (normally good) judgment."

9 times out of 10, they'll take pity on you and let you off with a lesser charge...like a non-moving violation or something.

Don't make any deals. It makes you look slimy. Ask them if they can do anything for you...but don't tell them what to do.

Say something like: "I know I screwed up. I was in a bad mood and driving much more aggressively than I normally do. You can check my record and see that it's clean. I've been driving for 15 years and never got so much as a speeding ticket in all that time. I was just sloppy that night. I really hope that a temporary lapse in good judgment won't have a big impact on me. I wouldn't waste everyone's time if I didn't honestly believe that this was out of character for me. But, I'm a student and money is tight. I would hate to see my insurance premiums go up for something so stupid. I really hope there's something you can do for me."

That's about all you can say. Most of the time, they'll cut you a break.

At the very least ask for a reduction. 60% of people I've seen in traffic court ask ans of that about %90 get a reduction by half in both the fines and the points.

The fine is nothing compared to your insurance rates.

What I will do from now on is call my agent, ask what this ticket will do to my rates and depending on total cost I will either hire a lawyer or just pay the fee.

The whole "gonna lose my license if I get too many points" is no worry to me, as I am a pretty sane driver. My issues isn't paying a fine, either...WTF, I was doing an illegal thing and I got popped. Oh fucking well, right?

My big bitch is the fucking insurance companies and how bad they rape you on their damn rates...figure if my rates go up only $20/mo over 3 years that is $720, so screw a $200 ticket, I am all about how bad my insurance is gonna suck!

I got caught doing a 61 in a 25(This road could easily be a 35mph limit zone). Cop thought I was street racing my friend, told him the truth that i was trying to pass him. I gave the cop all my info and my friends Info, got off with a $210 ticket for 10 over. Payed it. my friend eluded the scene and had to pay $455 for the full ticket.

The best thing is, my insurance never went up. 6 months later, hasn't gone up.In fact my rates went down $40 a month after the ticket.

Just though I'd share my experience. Stupid on my part.
