The early 70s are just too slow. A 74 911S would be the only one worth getting.
But if you have the bills to drop on a 993 then you probably wouldn't be considering an SC.

Id say get the fucken 8 look good and hard you can find good examples out there.
and my dad isnt really into the older porsches, plus he needs to have somewhat of an abiltity to throw some smaller people in the back seat ie: my sister every now and then anyways.

But the 73 911 RS (RSR in my dreams) is just wow. They are absolutely gorgeous, nicest looking 911 ever made in my opinion - and even though I haven't had the previllage of driving one - I have heard first hand from Porsche drivers that 73 porches are the most fun, best handling 911 ever made.
But with that ducktail, it can be my garage queen and I'd be happy!!!
Again, if I wasn't in search for a classic 911, i would reach for the 964 (which is sort of a classic now i suppose) or the 993. 996s aren't appealing to me at all.
997, well I havent even seen those in real life yet, so no say on that.
now, tell me you wouldnt stick it in that car's tailpipe
Obviously, obtaining a rsr is close to impossible, unless you have pockets deeper than Sadaam's hiding hole, but finding an S not nearly impossible, and it would be a great project to make a RSR replica.~ Go Canucks Go! ~

I've been reading about the E34 M5, and I think that's the way to go. My dad has wanted to get another car to replace his current car, and he's thinking the E34 M5 as well.
3.6 or 3.8 L, they're both pretty quick. I would think a lot more of your E30 knowledge would transfer over to the E34. Personally, I would feel more comfortable doing work on a E34 because they seem very similar to the E30.
Also, the common mods for the E34 are close to the E30 mods. I'd just let your dad know you could probably help out more on the M5.The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

Yeah, the RSR is a badass car.
I'm still wondering who told you that the 73s are the best handling...
If we're brining racing models into this:
935>>>RSR
My dad had the privlegde of riding in one a few years back (he said he couldn't take his head off of the back of the seat... but when you do the 1/4 mile in 8.9...).Originally posted by Grueliusand i do not know what bugg brakes are.

8.9seconds??? What car are you referring to?
the RSR with the 2.8 weighs something like 950kg and 210bhp!!!
2.7 RS model, lil heavier at 960kg,
2.4 S model at 975kg (0-60 in 5.5Seconds!!!)
Even the S model, which, even in North America is not a huge rarity (well it is, but with patience, you'll find one) has great text book performance, not to mention the weight of those things.
Well since I can't speak from my own experience, I'll leave you to ask someon who has actually driven the 73 911s and hear what they have to say about the handling.
I'm not suprised with the looks and specs of the 73 911 S, RS, RSR, that it is often remarked as the most sought after 911 of all time.~ Go Canucks Go! ~

I have heard so many horror stories about reliability and cost of ownership of BMW's of all models including the E30. I had great experiences with both of my bimmers and both were relatively cheap to run. E31's are great cars. My recommendation would have to go for the 840 though, cheaper to first get into and better handling. If your dad has $20k to spend on a weekend cruiser I would shoot for something newer and cheaper like a Porsche Boxster, but thats just if he wants to strut and have some fun. My dad got his 2001 Boxster with a Borla exhaust for around $15k-ish if memory serves me correct.
If we are talking about sticking in the BMW range of things I would shoot for a E30 or E36 M3 for a weekend car.
