    Insurance money problems!

Ok so as most of you know my '88 325iX was totaled about a week and a half ago, USAA is my insurer and they called Thursday go give me the scoop on what they want to give me for the car, the buy-back price and the report. My car was pretty much all original, "very good" condition, interior was original "very good" condition, i had just done all preventive maintenance, t-case, transmission, differential, fluid flush, new hoses, tb, water pump..basics.

The car overall was really good. So they offered me about 2300 so I don't accept the offer and ask for them to send me the report so I can see what they go by to find the Market Value. I know that one in same condition as mine will go from $4-6k. The car his about 177,000 miles. So i was looking and they say they found like 24,000 of them, but only about 2,600 of them were ever in the USA. They gave a few examples of the cars they compared them to they compared it to 2 1988 325(super eta) and 1 325iX. They say they compare to "similar" cars. Well I was getting my friend John McHenry to write them a letter anyways he laughs and say the iX is not similar in anyway, so he does research to find "reputable sources" and finds they indeed are not similar, every thing from steering rack to wheels are different. Anyways the report goes on. So he as an employee of Motorsport Connections is going to give the estimated value of the vehicle.
and example to support his points.

So I know many of you reading this have had previous experiences and I would like feedback on what and what not to say. And any other ideas that you would like to share with me.

    Thanks,
    Patrick

P.S sorry if this is a bunch of rambling and run-on sentences, when I get fired up I tend to just say what I am thinking.

          produce your own comps

You need to provide your own comparables to support your position. Craigslist and Autotrader are two good sources, as well as the Roundel classified. Find specific ix comps comparable to your car. 2 or 3 should do it. Local are better than opposite end of the country.

If you can give them good comps that they can put in their file when they close it, then they will probably get closer to your price. Remember, most people look at E30s as just old tired cars, because most of them are. They don't know that cults like R3V exist that keep a minor portion of E30s in outstanding condition.

I'm surprised. USAA has been awesome to deal with as my insurance company. I think there is probably some confusion with the rarity of the ix on this country. Good luck!

look at you state tax that yo pay for your car, and it will tell you what's your car's worth to the state.

Hope you talk to them tomorrow and go with independent appraiser/adjuster. Then compile al the receipts and work estimates on what it would cost to replace your car.

I don't think he even had this car for a whole year, so he may not have ever seen the property tax bill

Sorry to hear about your car, hope everyone is ok. I don't know if this will help, but I had one totaled about 10yrs ago and the ins co. wanted to give me $3400 or something like that. So I went to the sales dept at the dealership and had them write me a fair market value for the car (after giving them all the numbers). Their value was more like $6900, which is what the ins co. paid me. How could they argue with the dealer value, who knows the car better than them? Good luck

The dealer would more likly hurt then help. The kbb on most of our cars is under 3k and it being a car with semi high miles the dealer would give you a guess at what they could sell it for, which would be about 2500. Just find some local cars that are in very close shape to the one you lost and show the insurance the price on those. Also try to find ads by people that semi know the car and not some old lady, or kid who thinks the car is shit and is just trying to unload it.

I'm sure all of those are in excellent condition inside and out as well as mechanically, well maintained with a bunch of preventative maintenance just done.
