The thought of a hoax never even crossed my mind...because....who the fuck would hoax this? UFO's I can imagine, but this?
I just thought the guy had absolutely no caution. Assumed he was just bullheaded and thought the motor was as simple as a barstool.
If that's a hoax, what a waste. If it's for real, I'd help him tear his car apart. I'm probably worse than he is with this stuff. I just don't attempt it without supervision.

I agree, I'm in the Navy, and I'd never met people so stupid until I joined the military.
he asked if he could come over yesterday so i could help him get some dried up mud off the bottom of his truck.. so i said sure... he got here and i made him park in the side street... so im working on gettin my IE exhaust on and i take a break and go over to him where he's using a broken peice of wood and a long screwdriver while on my creeper under his '04 F-150 FX4... he pulls out a 20 lb. chuck of mud and he's like "man i have like 10 more of these i need to get out" and then i look up and see all these scrathes on his truck (keep in mind its pretty new) and i asked him wtf they were from.. he said there was some mud dried on his truck a while back and he scratched it off with his key (he didnt find a problem with this) and i go to the back where the fiberglass of his bumper is showing through on the corner and he said he backed into the gate when he left his house b/c he didnt notice it hadnt had time to open all the way yet.... then i showed him how to check his oil and noticed his tires were low.. i checked them and they had 15 psi he said "is that bad? its only been like that for 2 weeks so i figured it was ok..." just lettin you know there are people out the like gumby...
