I've been down this road before. Someone rear ended my 93 E36 320i. I bought it back from the insurance company and put it back on the road.
When a car is totalled everything has to pass inspection to put it back on the road. After you sink all the money into the car to pass inspection your left with a car you can't sell because of the rebuilt title. So either you keep the car forever or be prepared to get next to nothing for it when you do sell it.

How is that totaled? Mine had more damage and insurance didn't total it!

It would be a crime to part that car out.

dude, replace the rear bumper shocks-- like a 30 min job, and just drive the thing.

Thanks to all who were interested in parts, but after searching for a replacement i've decided to keep it. My son absolutely loves the car and we can't find anything else in the price range that even comes close.

way to go! I am sure you can find a back alley painter/bodyguy/shop that will repair the damage and paint that thing for under 500 dollars.
