I am thinking of selling the E30.

I am needing the need for speed and my E30 318is just dose not cut it. So im am thinkin about a E36 M3 3.2l. My car sells for around $7500 here and i can pick up an M3 for around $20k-30k.

I really like the E30 and I would like to turn it into a track car but i feel it is not good finantually. I could problable pick up a late model E30 318i with a blown head jasket or something like that for 1k-2k which would be a better finantual choice for a track car.

So I am thinkin of selling the E30 and getting the M3 now and then in a few years buy a cheap E30 and revive her. What are thoughts about this. For some reason I feel like I am really going to regret doing this.

    You probably will.

Drive a few E36 M3s before you make the decision. Faster in a straight line sure, but you'll probably find they just don't have the same pizzaz.

Good compromise... S52 swap. Quicker than an E36M, cheaper, still retain most of the E30's tossable feel and you won't wind up trying to hunt your old car down.

I believe you will regret it. The E36's aren't without faults, either. Personally, be happy with what you've got. When it comes to power, you will always want more and more, and will never really reach the "nirvana" state. What you should concentrate on is suspension and get out on some track days on a road course (not drag strip).

Not to mention, the E30's styling trumps E36's every which way. :D

Keep the e30. Do a 24v swap. Still need more power? then turbo the swapped motor.

Unless you have idolized the E36 since your childhood, you will regret it. I've never ever heard someone go from an E30 to an E36 and not regret it. In fact, I've heard of a lot of people selling their E36 M3s for E30s.

I think you are all right. Lol. I also need something to go on long drive with and the 318is is not up to that job. Maybe i could stretch my self and get a second car like a Honda Accord as a DD. Then have the E30 as the Fun car I would like that.

m5x/s5x swap will give you all you need, why spend a ton more money for an e36 that will disappoint you when all you need is the engine?

You're honestly telling us that you've heard of a lot of people selling their European E36 M3 (S50B3x equipped) for a regular E30 for reasons other than financial difficulties?
