    PS2 or XBOX ?

So when I hook up my TV, audio etc, I want to hook up some type of DVD player at the same time.

Since I rarely watch movies, and I rarely play games, I thought that the best option for me is to just get a PS2 (older one) or XBOX.
I heard that the new slim PS2 is not so good?

What do you guys think I should buy?

Note that I will hardly ever play games, cept maybe when I have friends over drinking, or if I'm ripped out of my mind. (and therefore, I only play simple games like racing games, or snowboarding games).

I'd like to hear some suggestions, thanks.

If you "hardly ever play games" and "hardly ever watch movies", buy a 40 dollar wal-mart special DVD player.

Unless you really want Gran Turismo 4. Otherwise, I would go the X-box route.

People are complaining that you can't strap a hard drive on.. harder to mod (so i've heard), etc.

If you're a normal user, who actually buys the games, don't care about linux, etc. Then you're set.

Sega Genesis with NBA Jam ... Like you need anymore gaming than that.

Computers are good enough for DVDs. :)

I don't play snowboarding games but the kinda racing games I play, I don't do well at all when I am not sober  Rallisport Challenge and GT3

I'd say get both; a used x-box and used PS2...prices on em are low.

Modded xboxs are nice, even if you don't care about modding games. Xbox Media Center lets you play cds/dvds/vcd/music/movies of all types/etc. You can view images and all sorts of stuff. Get a bigger harddrive and you can burn games onto your xbox within 10-20 minutes with a click of a button. Probably what I like most is the space, it's basically a computer. My computer's hard drive was dieing and I threw everything important onto my xbox for safe keeping.

                      Although I'm gonna miss GT4.

                        damn such a hard decision.....

I will try to hunt for the older PS2 and mod it. I sometimes play Japanese DVDs so I need a region-free player.
If I can't find a PS2, then I'll get a XBOX. I can mod the XBOX too right?

                        Thanks guys.

Xbox's are easier to mod then PS2's. And information on how-to is easier to come by.
