    when buying a 260K 318is?

going to look at a 91' 260K 318is as a possible buy, $2K obo. this will be my first e30. normally, I wouldn't even think about buying a car with soooo many miles, but being on here for awhile and reading how tough these cars are has made this a hard choice.the current owner says the car runs fine, so its gonna come down to searching for anything that could possibly go wrong. I plan on driving the crap out of it on the test drive, check for clutch slippage, see if the lsd still grabs, and just do a quick look at the vacuum lines. if the car does indeed run/idle well and everything seems to work, what else should I look for besides the oil pan leak and timing chain rattle? any other areas to look for? Not too worried about bushings(i plan on replacing them anyway). should I split the bill with the owner for a compression test?

At 260k, those timing sprockets will probably be pretty knife-edged, if you really seriously want to get this car, I'd plan on doing that maintenance, rattle or not.

If I were you though, I'd just look for something with less miles.

      Werd.
There are lot of choices (e30 that is) out there with less than 260k on the clock. Better wait and do some search first.
